Creating our silk Lampshades is a labour of love that requires precision and expertise. From the initial design concept to the final touches, every step is carefully executed to ensure the highest level of craftsmanship. We traveled to our workshop in the heart of the UK, to learn more about each part of the process.
1. Our designs are digitally printed onto luxurious silk fabrics in the UK.
2. The silk is carefully cut into traditional lampshade panels and then laminated with a white backing to add structure.
3. Each silk panel is scored along the hems, and the backing from each edge is carefully removed.
4. The fabric hem is folded over and secured to create a smooth edge, and the EJS label is added.
4. The silk panel is then carefully wrapped around a wire frame to create the ‘drum’ shape, and secured using wooden pegs. All our lampshades are made to order for either a ceiling light or a floor lamp fitting.
5. The silk is skilfully tucked and secured under the wire frame with a hand tool to create a rolled edge, ensuring a seamless finish.
6. The edges of the shade panel are clamped together to seal the seams, creating your finished lampshade.
7. Ready to be sent to you! Add a bulb and voila!
