Much to our delight, it seems scarves are having a bit of a fashion moment this season. The catwalk saw Tom Ford tie black silk scarves as chokers and American fashion blogger Leandra Medine - aka Man Repeller - gave us a lesson in silky anklets, perfect with a bare leg and a summer sandal. The individuality a skilfully tied scarf can bring to a look has hailed somewhat of a scarf renaissance. And who can doubt their versatility? Tied on a handbag, used as a hair-tie or even hung on a wall - we're celebrating scarf style in its many forms. Using a selection of pieces from the fairytale-inspired Aesop Collection, we take you through six looks that will inspire your summer scarf style and hopefully give you a few ideas along the way! Here goes...

THE WRISTLET

Forget bangles this season and embrace the comfort and luxury a silk scarf can bring to an everyday look. This style works best with small silk scarves (90x90cm or smaller) - we've used the Frith classic silk square in orange. Simply fold in a triangle and fold the top point across to the width of the scarf, then continue to fold until you reach the width you want your wristlet to be. We recommend getting a helping hand tying the scarf on the wrist and finish with either a knot or small bow! Try clashing two separate scarf designs on both wrists for a hint of high-summer playfulness, ideal with denim.

THE CHIGNON 

This one is a sure-fire tropical holiday hit. Whether you're poolside or on safari, keep your head cool in the heat with a twisted chignon that brings a little exotica to your getaway wardrobe! Using a large square or shawl-size scarf, collect the sides at the nape of your neck and begin to twist. After you've twisted a quarter of the way, start to coil into a bun and continue to twist, coil and repeat. Tuck the end into the bun to complete the chignon! We think the different shades of blue in the modal and cashmere Pegasus scarf create a lovely effect when twisted, but this style would work equally well with silk chiffon.

THE SCARF RING

Of course the scarf isn't the only accessory under the fashion spotlight at the moment, and we're equally passionate about the once-forgotten scarf ring. Using the glittering opal blue and silver Petra ring from our collaboration with Atelier Swarovski, the tips of the Frith scarf have been crossed over and looped through the scarf ring, positioned at the front of the neck. Swing it to the side to channel your inner Parisian and wear looser for a more relaxed feeling. There's nothing like glistening sunshine to draw attention to a crystal-encrusted scarf ring, and the uniqueness of the accessory is bound to be an instant outfit talking point. Long live the scarf ring!

THE BELT

We promised you that scarves were versatile and this style certainly demonstrates that! We've taken Tinker Bell in pink silk, looped through the belt hole of a pair of dungarees and fastened at the back in an adorable bunny-ear knot. Once again a winner with denim (but equally as effective when cinching in a white shirt dress), this look lends itself easily to a brightly coloured silk scarf. We particularly love the way the animal printed lily-pad leaves hang down at the back and Tinker Bell's mischievous face forms the front of the belt!

THE FOLDED PLAIT

Summer may be upon us, but unless you're luckier to live in hotter climes the chances are the British weather may prove a little more unpredictable. Don't panic - the folded plait is a quick solution to battling the inevitable evening summer chill. Styled here with the Tigris shawl in modal and cashmere, the bold red and gold colouring creates a striking look that can be worn with just about anything. Wrap the scarf around the neck and pull one side up through the neck loop to make a gap. Then pass the other end through the gap to finish off the plait. Voila! Your summer evening al fresco outfit sorted...

THE HEAD WRAP

Whether you're slumming it at Glastonbury or enjoying the outdoors at Port Eliot, summer for many equals festivals. A tricky wardrobe to pack for, we can assure you that this final scarf style avoids any festival boho pitfalls. Worn with camping-friendly plaits, the head wrap is best styled with semi-sheer silk chiffon for maximum movement and minimal suitcase space required. Simply position the scarf under the hair, pull both ends out to the front of your head, cross over once then cross over again to create a twist and finally pull both ends round to the back of your head, finishing by fastening in a double knot. We've delved into the Disney Tinker Bell collection once more with this look, but picking a scarf to compliment your hair colour is a good way to start here.
