Our 2016 highlights - a year in review

28th December 2016

2016 is quickly coming to an end, and it's safe to say we've had a busy year here at EJS! Before we get underway with all our new plans for 2017, we're taking some time to reflect on our successes and highlights from the past year. Join us as we take a trip back in time and re-live our favourite moments from 2016...

10. Our brand new cushions launched at Liberty

Find our cushions in store at Liberty on the 4th floor

This autumn we launched our brand new collection of cushions exclusively at Liberty London! We translated some of our favourite scarf designs onto printed and woven cushions in silk and cotton blends. We're overjoyed with the reactions we've had to the cushions this year; we can't wait to share our upcoming designs with you in 2017!

9. Scarfi - our very own app

The launch of Emma J Shipley Scarfi at Westfield London included a large scale Sirens design

November saw the release of our augmented reality app 'Scarfi'! Launched at Westfield London (with our very own scarf vending machine no less!), and in collaboration with the Fashion Innovation Agency and Meshmerise, we created an app that lets you virtually try on our Phoenix collection scarves and enter the magical world of our illustrations and designs. Scarfi is available to download now on the App Store. Tag your photos #ScarfiEJS - we'd love to see them!

8. The launch of the Phoenix and Mythical collection

This year, we launched two new magical scarf collections - Mythical and Phoenix. The Mythical collection features majestic beasts of myth and legend, such as the Drakon and Shadowcats, as well as extinct creatures like the dodo and the sabre-toothed tiger. The Phoenix collection displays the mythical wolf Fenrir, as well as arresting Phoenixes in flight, soaring around on silk and the finest wool. Shop the collections here

7. Captivating Clerkenwell - our first interiors show

We had a great reception at our first interiors show

We enjoyed taking part in the seventh annual Clerkenwell Design Week in London during the summer, where industry and public visitors were treated to innovative installations, world class design, the latest in product launches and a wealth of talent to choose from. With the new interior concepts in the pipeline, our stand in the Additions exhibition was bubbling with interest, alongside other creative designers and brands. We'll be back there for 2017 - and we'd love to see you there

6. Giraffe fever in the press!

We've been getting a lot of love for our Giraffe Cushion - press included! The cushion has been included in a plethora of publications this year, including Living Etc and The Sunday Times Style Magazine. See the all the press features from the year here.

5. We popped up in Notting Hill this Christmas

We loved the buzzing environment of Notting Hill for out latest pop-up.

Throughout December, we teamed up with the Notting Hill Christmas Collective to open a pop-up retail space that hosted both the style savvy and serial shoppers on the hunt for the perfect seasonal purchases. The luxury concept store offered some of the most exciting London based designers and artists across fashion, accessories, lifestyle and art. We loved meeting customers old and new and helping them to choose their perfect purchases

4. The RCA Secret exhibition

Can you spot one of our hand-drawn postcards in this picture?!

Back in the spring, we were delighted to be asked to take part in the annual Royal College of Art Secret show. An exhibition with a difference, 2,000 postcard-sized original artworks by a whole host of artists and designers are on display and all for sale at the set price of £55 each. The cards are all exhibited anonymously, meaning that the buyer only finds out the artist after making a purchase. Renowned artists who took part this year included Sir Peter Blake, Paula Rego and Jeremy Deller

3. Star Wars Celebration struck back!

Left: the Emma J Shipley stand at Star Wars Celebration. Right: Emma sketching on the stand to give away to eager fans.

The biggest global Star Wars event this year - Star Wars Celebration was a weekend to remember! Back in the summer, in a galaxy not so far away (the London Excel Centre) we took part in the huge celebration, displaying our Star Wars collection of scarves, prints and pocket squares, as well as sketching up a storm with our live drawing sessions. We loved meeting fans and introducing our designs to Jedis, Siths and even droids from across the galaxy!

2. A voyage Beyond the Waterfall with Bompas and Parr

The Bompas and Parr umbrellas and menus featured our upcoming Neptune design

This December, we were delighted to collaborate with masters of imagination Bompas and Parr, who created an installation nicknamed "the ultimate grotto for grown-ups". Beyond the Waterfall, based at Westfield London, transported visitors on a fantastical odyssey across a magical lagoon and through an enchanting land to an undersea cocktail bar, via a row boat. Umbrellas and menus were given the EJS touch with our upcoming hand-drawn Neptune design.

1. Our magical collaboration with Aspinal of London

And finally! We were delighted to team up with luxury lifestyle brand Aspinal of London to create a capsule collection of printed leather bags and scarves, featuring a brand new Pegasus illustration. Launched exclusively at Harrods in August, the collection is now also available in Selfridges London and Aspinal stores worldwide. You can browse and shop the Pegasus Collection here.

That's it! Thank you for all your support in 2016 and we can't wait to share with you what the new year will bring. We hope you'll continue with us on our magical voyage and that you'll get involved with some of the events we have coming up in 2017...

Happy New Year!
