London Fashion Week: DAY 3

23rd February 2015

Day 3 of London Fashion Week dawned and the rain came in droves - so much so that the courtyard was washed away of the crowds as everyone tried to find shelter from the Sunday downpour. However the weather didn’t deter us, and as the halfway point of fashion week came it was time for a refuel and a much needed browse of some of the amazing collections on show at Somerset House.

Fellow Centre for Fashion Enterprise neighbour and emerging womenswear designer Danielle Romeril presented her catwalk show of tartan warriors in the morning to a great reception. As part of the NEWGEN programme, Danielle’s AW15 collection (entitled Survival) was inspired by the process of salvaging and scavenging to produce new creations. Her modern day warriors traipsed down the catwalk in a smudge of face paint and a blur of clashing textures. The silhouettes were powerful, as was the attitude of the models who really embodied the warrior spirit.

We caught up with Danielle in the morning as she moved the collection to the NEWGEN showspace for a brief pop-up showroom where we browsed the new pieces. It was exciting to see the garments in their full glory, as we’ve been watching them taking form in the CFE studios over the past few months. We also loved the exclusive NEWGEN stickers that Danielle designed and can’t wait to take them back to the studio with us…

For Autumn/Winter the EJS team are previewing the Extinct collection of scarves, featuring extinct animals with surreal elements and astronomy-inspired constellation designs in a bold colour palette. Journalist and stylist Bertie Brandes swung by and styled up her favourite scarf from the collection - the silk chiffon Constellation design, which we thought matched perfectly with her weather-protecting day 3 outfit!

Friend of the brand and jewellery designer Lily Kamper is a firm favourite of ours, and we were dazzled with her coloured Perspex beauties for Autumn/Winter. With lots of buzz around the brand, we predict big things for our pal Lily! She also took a moment out to choose her designer pick from our new resort wear collection, modelling the Constellation kimono for a quick snap…

The day was rounded off with the designer drinks party, hosted by the BFC at Somerset House’s Pennethorne’s bar. The exhibitors piled in for well-deserved champagne and nibbles and it was a good opportunity to catch up with the other designers from the Somerset House showroom. We’d like to say that we partied the night away, but 3 days of fashion week had got the better of our energy levels, so it was an early-ish home time for us! We’ll see you tomorrow for plenty more updates and action from Somerset House...
