Sometimes a short trip away is all that's needed to soak up the best bits a destination has to offer. That was the thinking behind Emma's flying visit to Venice this week, where she made the most of the city's beauty, culture and cuisine all in 48 hours. With a polaroid camera in hand and a river taxi ready and waiting, here's what 48 hours in Italy's most magnificent location looks like...

In a city that's already dominated by water, a little flooding is hardly noticeable when the streets are made up of canals. However the recent rainfall in Venice meant that beautiful reflections were spotted illuminating the numerous landmarks that outline the city.

A trip to the Gallerie dell'Accademia was an essential cultural pit stop on Emma's journey around Venice. The ancient museum holds a vast collection of pre-19th century art, and contains an evocative and impressive gallery of artworks that fits firmly at home in its grand Venetian surroundings.

A trip to the city's famous St Mark's Square was also followed by venturing up to the top of the Campanile di San Marco tower which is situated in the square. It's one of Venice's most recognisable landmarks which also offers the best and most panoramic views across the city. Luckily Emma's handy polaroid camera managed to capture the essence of Venice from way up high...

Along with taking in the scenes and sights, Emma also had the opportunity to visit an ancient and fully-functioning weaving mill where traditional techniques are combined with the finest Italian materials and skilled craftspeople, along with looms and original patterns dating back to the 16th Century.

During Emma's short visit, Venice was also marking the Italian version of remembrance day on November 4th - The Day of National Unity and of the Armed Forces. Flags were raised across the city and a procession of servicemen made their way through the town along with music, with the serenity and grandeur of the city providing the perfect backdrop to the commemoration.

There's no denying that the beauty of Venice's streets was the lasting memory that remained after leaving the city. From the buildings to the boats, there were little things to discover on every corner, and even though 48 hours was no where near enough time to explore every part of the city - it was the ideal mini trip to capture the best that magnificent Venice has to offer...
